We all are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news of Assan Ndiaye’s death. Assan’s warm and kind heart stopped beating. He was 34.

Assan used to play for Shakhtar at the dawn of this century. Every football aficionado, every Shakhtar fan remembers this charismatic and amiable man. He had the miner’s character and he was able to prove it on the playing field. .

During his time at Shakhtar, Assan Ndiaye helped the team make considerable progress. Shakhtar fans shall never forget his bright and breathtaking performance. He earned respect and love of the local supporters. Not every foreign player was accepted the way Shakhtar fans accepted Assan. We can say that he had become one of us.

Assan also used to be Senegal’s XI captain.

Our sympathies are with the family, friends and all those for whom his name means something. Rest in piece, Assan. We’ll never forget you.
