In a sensational turnaround, Rimini have been relegated after losing 1-0 at home to Ancona in the play-outs!
The key to another season in Serie B seemed to be in their hands following a 1-1 draw away from home in the first leg.
Pagano had the chance to seal it for Rimini 14 minutes in, but blasted over from a very promising position.
Surraco had a one-man battle with goalkeeper Agliardi, peppering his goal with shots from all angles, but the home side again wasted when Docente fired straight at Da Costa from point-blank range.
That proved costly, as Ancona began to pour forward in the last 20 minutes. Agliardi got his fingertips to efforts from Mastronunzio, Soddimo and Surraco.
With 11 minutes to go, Ancona found their goal. Soddimo’s cross from the byline found Mastronunzio’s header amid poor defending.
Now it was Rimini’s turn for the desperate last-gasp attacks, but Da Costa denied La Camera’s snapshot and held on for the victory.
Rimini drop down into Lega Pro and Ancona live to fight another day in Serie B, winning the play-out 2-1 on aggregate.
